SQL Server R2: What's New?

Presented by: Alan Naim of Microsoft and Phil Hummel of Winwire Technologies

Join us to get the inside scoop on SQL Server 2008 R2, formerly known as Kilimanjaro. Release of R2 is right around the corner.  We covered PowerPivot in a recent meeting, and plan to cover other new features in upcoming meetings.

Allan Naim and Phil Hummel will tell us about several new capabilities in R2.  

You'll learn about:  

  • Parallel Data Warehouse (Project Madison)
  • Fast Track Data Warehouse (reference implementation)
  • Event Data Processing

Allan Naim is a pre-sales Platform Architect with Microsoft focused on working with Fortune 100 customers in adopting Microsoft’s Application Platform technologies for their Tier 1 mission critical space. Allan joined Microsoft in 2004 and has held positions on the BizTalk Product Team and Premier Services acting as a trusted adviser around integration and .NET technologies.

Phil Hummel is currently the Business Intelligence Practice Director for WinWire Technologies in Santa Clara.  He's responsible for sales and delivery of consulting services exclusively focused on the Microsoft Business Intelligence platform.  Prior to joining WinWire Phil spent 8 years working in Microsoft Consulting Services and the Microsoft Enterprise Sales Group as a data platform architect.

About the User Group  The San Francisco SQL Server User Group maintains a focus on database development and administration practices specifically centered around Microsoft SQL Server. Presentations include developer centric interactive sessions as well as demonstrations of related products that have been judged to have potential value or be of interest to the professional database community. The intent is also to provide a face to face forum for peer learning and networking within the context of SQL Server. Members include DBAs, application developers long experienced using SQL Server, FoxPro or Access as a backend data source for custom business systems, as well as developers migrating to the Microsoft .NET platform.
